The vision of a Garden City was introduced by the late Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew to transform Singapore into a city with abundant with abundant lush greenery and clean environment that in order to make life more pleasant for its people. In its initial phases, the project was implemented in the form of extensive tree planting to recreate the tree lined boulevards that Lee encountered during his overseas trips. Since its inception, 1.4 million trees have been planted.
